Since I am going to discuss Japanese prints next, I thought it might be cool (and relevant) to post some quotes about art and nature.
Van Gogh said, "It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one should listen to, the feeling for the things themselves, for reality, is more important than the feeling for pictures."
Cezanne said, "When I judge art, I take my painting and put it next to a God made object like a tree or flower. If it clashes, it is not art."
Courbet said, "The beautiful is in nature, and it is encountered under the most diverse forms of reality. Once it is found it belongs to art, or rather to the artist who discovers it."
Eakins said, "The big artist...keeps an eye on nature and steals her tools."
Seneca (4 B.C. – 65 A.D.) said, "All art is but imitation of nature."
Rembrandt said, “Choose only one master.. Nature.”
Tadao Ando says, “When you look at Japanese traditional architecture, you have to look at Japanese culture and its relationship with nature. You can actually live in a harmonious, close contact with nature - this very unique to Japan.”
